Destinations

Where we transport Long Island patients

The most common state-to-state trips from Long Island are into New York City (for Manhattan specialty hospitals), New Jersey, Connecticut, and sometimes to Pennsylvania or Massachusetts for highly specialized care. All ground — no air coordination required.

New York City

  • · Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
  • · NYU Langone
  • · Weill Cornell Medicine
  • · Mount Sinai
  • · Montefiore Medical Center
  • · NewYork-Presbyterian

The most common destination for Long Island patients. We navigate tunnels, bridges, and hospital drop-off without adding stress.

New Jersey

  • · Hackensack Meridian Health
  • · RWJBarnabas Health
  • · Atlantic Health System
  • · Trinitas Regional Medical Center

Accessible via the Goethals Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel. We regularly run Bergen County and Newark hospital trips.

Connecticut

  • · Yale New Haven Hospital
  • · Hartford Hospital
  • · UConn Health
  • · Griffin Hospital

Yale School of Medicine is a leading destination for rare disease and oncology consultations. We make this a comfortable ride, not a road trip.

Pennsylvania

  • · Penn Medicine (Philadelphia)
  • · Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
  • · Temple University Hospital

Philadelphia's academic medical centers are accessible via the New Jersey Turnpike. We provide the full door-to-door service.

Massachusetts

  • · Boston Children's Hospital

Boston is a 4–5 hour drive from Long Island. We handle multi-day trips with planned rest stops and comfortable vehicles.

Maryland & DC

  • · Johns Hopkins Hospital
  • · NIH Clinical Center (Bethesda)
  • · Sibley Memorial Hospital

Johns Hopkins and NIH receive patients from across the country. Ground transport from Long Island to Baltimore or Bethesda available.

Why ground over air

Ground transport is often the right choice for medical travel

Flying requires arrival 2 hours early, security screening, baggage handling, and a second transport at the destination. For patients managing pain, fatigue, or post-procedure restrictions, that logistics burden adds up.

Ground transport lets you leave from your door and arrive at the facility entrance. No TSA, no airports, no connecting transport. For destinations within 400 miles, the total door-to-door time is often comparable to flying when you include terminal time.

DachiPlus drivers are trained in passenger assistance and experienced on the routes that matter for Long Island patients — the BQE, Cross Bronx, I-95, and Turnpike corridors.

Door-to-door service

Pickup at your front door, drop-off at the hospital entrance. No intermediate steps.

Medical-capable vehicles

Clean, odor-free vehicles that can accommodate mobility devices, oxygen, and medical equipment.

Companion travel

A family member or caregiver can ride along at no extra cost. No "one passenger" limitation.

Multi-day trips

Extended stays require multiple trips. We coordinate round-trips and recurring scheduled transport.

Flight monitoring for NYC connections

If you're flying home from a treatment destination, we monitor arrivals and pick you up at JFK or MacArthur.

Payment & coverage

How long-distance transport is paid for

Most long-distance and state-to-state trips are private pay, but insurance pathways exist:

Private pay: Credit card, HSA/FSA, or cash. Flat-rate quotes for long-distance trips.

Long-Term Care Insurance: Many LTCI policies include transportation to specialty care. We document and submit.

Medicare Advantage: Some plans cover long-distance medically necessary transport. We verify your specific plan benefits.

Workers' Comp / No-Fault: If the condition requiring out-of-state treatment resulted from a work accident or auto accident, the carrier may cover transport.

FAQ

Common questions about state-to-state medical transport

How far in advance do I need to schedule a Medicaid ride in New York?

+

New York State requires Medicaid transportation requests be made at least three business days (72 hours) before your appointment. Urgent or same-day medical needs may qualify for expedited scheduling — call MAS at 1-844-666-6270 to confirm.

Can patients on oxygen ride with you?

+

Yes. We routinely transport passengers using portable oxygen concentrators and oxygen cylinders. Please mention oxygen use when booking so the driver is prepared and seating is configured appropriately.

Can a family member or aide ride with me?

+

Yes. We allow one companion or aide to ride at no additional cost on most trips. For multiple companions or specific seating needs, please mention this when booking.

How much does long-distance medical transportation cost?

+

Long-distance trips are quoted individually based on round-trip mileage, vehicle type (ambulatory or wheelchair-accessible), and time required. Trips to NYC specialty centers typically range $200–$400 round trip; longer trips quoted on request.

Can you do overnight or multi-day long-distance trips?

+

Yes, for special situations. Overnight transports — for example, family transfers to upstate care facilities — are quoted individually and typically require a deposit. Call (516) 754-7777 to discuss specifics.
