To switch, you do not cancel anything or fill out a form. New York Medicaid lets you choose among the transportation companies in MAS's network for your type of ride, so the next time you book a ride through Medical Answering Services at
[1-844-666-6270](tel:+18446666270), tell them: "Please assign DachiPlus as my transportation provider." For recurring trips on a standing order, your medical provider makes the change. Prefer private pay? Call DachiPlus directly at
[(516) 754-7777](tel:+15167547777). We serve all of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

You can ask for a different ride provider when you book. Call MAS at **1-844-666-6270**, book your next trip, and say "assign DachiPlus." Under New York's Medicaid transportation policy, MAS assigns trips by the medically appropriate mode first, then by your choice among participating providers. For a standing order, ask your dialysis center or doctor's office to update it.

## Can I choose or change my Medicaid transportation provider in New York?

Yes, within the rules MAS follows. In New York, non-emergency Medicaid transportation is arranged through [Medical Answering Services (MAS)](https://dachiplus.com/resources/mas-medicaid-guide/), and the state's [Medicaid Transportation Policy Manual](https://www.emedny.org/ProviderManuals/Transportation/PDFS/Transportation_Manual_Policy_Section.pdf) (section 2.3, effective August 25, 2023) directs the broker to assign approvable trips "based first upon the medically appropriate mode of transportation, then by enrollee's choice among participating transportation vendors, and finally, at the discretion of the transportation broker." In plain terms, MAS first decides what kind of vehicle your trip needs, and your choice of company comes next. You are not locked into whichever company drove you last time. If another provider has been picking you up and you'd rather ride with DachiPlus, name us the next time you book. MAS handles the assignment, so you do not need to notify your current provider. Choice has limits: the Department of Health notes that sometimes a Preferred Provider covers a certain region, and MAS can only assign companies that participate in its network and have room for the trip. DachiPlus is a credentialed NEMT provider for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, so as long as we have availability for your trip type and time window, MAS can assign the trip to us. For the full picture of how the program works, see [how NEMT works under NY Medicaid](https://dachiplus.com/resources/how-nemt-works-ny-medicaid/).

## Exactly what to say when you call MAS

The switch happens inside a normal booking call, so there's nothing unusual to memorize. Call MAS at [1-844-666-6270](tel:+18446666270), book your trip the way you always do — Medicaid CIN, appointment date and time, the medical facility address, your pickup address, and your mobility needs — and when the representative asks which provider you'd like, name DachiPlus.

Say this on the call

"When you assign my trip, please assign DachiPlus as my transportation provider. I'd like to use them going forward for my rides in Nassau / Suffolk County."

If MAS asks whether you use a wheelchair or need any assistance, answer honestly so the right vehicle is sent. DachiPlus transports ambulatory riders and passengers who can transfer to a vehicle seat with driver assistance; if you must remain in your wheelchair for the trip, we coordinate a lift-equipped wheelchair-accessible van through a licensed partner. If you're unsure which applies to you, our guide on [NEMT vs ambulette](https://dachiplus.com/resources/nemt-vs-ambulette/) walks through it.

## Do I need a reason to switch providers?

The state policy treats your provider choice as a step in how MAS assigns the trip: once the mode is set, your choice among participating companies comes next, and the policy does not list a reason you have to give. People ask for a different company because of a late pickup, a rude driver, a vehicle that didn't fit their needs, or simply because a friend or their dialysis center referred them to DachiPlus. That said, if your switch is prompted by a specific bad experience, it's worth also reporting it: see [how to file a Medicaid transportation complaint in NY](https://dachiplus.com/resources/how-to-file-a-medicaid-transportation-complaint-ny/) so the issue is on the record, not just quietly worked around.

## How do standing orders move to DachiPlus?

If you have recurring trips, most commonly dialysis three times a week, daily radiation, or weekly chemotherapy, those are set up as a **standing order** so you don't re-book every session. Under the state's [Standing Order Policy](https://wp2.medanswering.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Standing-Order-Policy-08202020.pdf) (effective October 1, 2020), MAS accepts standing orders only from your medical provider, entered in its online system; members, family and transportation companies cannot enter them. So when you switch, ask your dialysis center or doctor's office to update the standing order and list DachiPlus as the preferred transportation provider (the request has a field for it). A standing order runs for no more than six months, and your medical provider renews it. Driver continuity matters most on recurring trips, and naming a single provider on the standing order is how you get consistent, familiar drivers. For more on recurring trips, see [dialysis transportation on Long Island](https://dachiplus.com/services/dialysis-transportation/) and our [guide to booking Medicaid transportation in NY](https://dachiplus.com/resources/how-to-book-medicaid-transportation-ny/).

## When does the switch take effect? The 72-hour rule

The switch takes effect on the very next trip you book with DachiPlus named as the provider — there's no delay for "processing" a provider change. What does apply is New York's standard [72-hour rule](https://dachiplus.com/resources/medicaid-72-hour-rule-ny/): routine Medicaid rides should be booked at least three business days (72 hours) before the appointment so MAS can verify eligibility and assign a provider with availability. So the practical timing is simple: call MAS at least 72 hours before your next appointment, name DachiPlus, and we take the trip. Urgent same-day needs and [hospital discharges](https://dachiplus.com/services/hospital-discharge-transportation/) follow an expedited MAS process you can request by phone. If DachiPlus happens to be fully booked for your exact date and time, MAS may offer another provider — in that case you can ask about a different time, or book directly with us as private pay at [(516) 754-7777](tel:+15167547777).

## What switching to DachiPlus does not change

Switching providers never affects your Medicaid coverage, your eligibility, or your cost. Medicaid transportation stays [free](https://dachiplus.com/resources/free-transportation-medicaid-patients-ny/) — the provider bills Medicaid directly and you pay nothing at the curb. You keep booking through the same MAS line, your CIN doesn't change, and the trips Medicaid covers stay exactly the same. The only thing that changes is which company shows up to drive you. If your income is too high for Medicaid, or a specific trip isn't covered, you always have the option to book DachiPlus directly as [private pay](https://dachiplus.com/pay/private-pay/), or through [Medicare Advantage](https://dachiplus.com/pay/medicare-advantage/), [long-term care insurance](https://dachiplus.com/pay/long-term-care-insurance/), or [VA Community Care](https://dachiplus.com/pay/va-community-care/).

Ready to switch?

## Call MAS and name DachiPlus on your next ride.

There's no form for you to fill out. Say "assign DachiPlus" when MAS asks which provider you'd like, and ask your medical provider to update any standing order.

DachiPlus picks up across [Nassau County](https://dachiplus.com/service-area/nassau-county/) and [Suffolk County](https://dachiplus.com/service-area/suffolk-county/), so you can switch to us wherever you live on Long Island.

## Switching your Medicaid provider — FAQ

## How do I book Medicaid medical transportation in Suffolk or Nassau County?

In New York, Medicaid transportation is coordinated through Medical Answering Services (MAS) at 1-844-666-6270. You call MAS at least 72 hours before your appointment, provide your Medicaid ID, appointment information, and any mobility needs, and ask for DachiPlus by name. MAS first decides the right type of transportation for your trip, then considers your choice of provider among the companies enrolled for that type. When MAS assigns the trip to us, we dispatch a vehicle.

## What is MAS (Medical Answering Services)?

Medical Answering Services, commonly called MAS, is the broker that manages Medicaid non-emergency medical transportation across most of New York State, including Long Island. MAS verifies your Medicaid eligibility, confirms your appointment, and assigns a transportation provider. You can request a specific provider, like DachiPlus, when you call.

## How far in advance do I need to schedule a Medicaid ride in New York?

New York State requires Medicaid transportation requests be made at least three business days (72 hours) before your appointment. Urgent or same-day medical needs may qualify for expedited scheduling — call MAS at 1-844-666-6270 to confirm.

## How much does Medicaid medical transportation cost?

Medicaid medical transportation is free to eligible Medicaid members. There is no copay, fare, or out-of-pocket cost for trips approved through MAS. The provider bills Medicaid directly.

## Can I request a specific NEMT provider through MAS?

Yes. When you call MAS, you can request a specific provider by name. New York's Medicaid Transportation Policy Manual (section 2.3, effective August 25, 2023) has MAS assign trips first by the medically appropriate mode of transportation, then by the enrollee's choice among participating transportation vendors. Ask the MAS representative to assign your trip to DachiPlus. If we have availability for your appointment window and your trip type, MAS can assign the trip to us. Choice can be limited when a Preferred Provider covers a certain region.

## Do you offer recurring transportation for dialysis patients?

Yes. Dialysis is our largest recurring service category. For Medicaid riders, your dialysis center enters the standing order for your three-times-weekly schedule in the MAS system (under state policy, only the medical provider can) and can list DachiPlus as your preferred transportation provider. We then assign consistent drivers when possible and coordinate directly with your dialysis center.

## Medicaid rides with DachiPlus

On Long Island, Medicaid rides are booked through MAS. Call MAS, ask for DachiPlus by name, and a covered ride costs you nothing. Not on Medicaid, or the trip is not covered? Book a private-pay ride with us directly.
